Description:
Clearview Christian Girls School is presently in its’ third year of a three-year grant from OHA funds that features middle school girls teaching weekly one hour lessons to Kula Elementary school students in science concepts including refraction and wave particle duality. The third year of the program will feature the concepts of science and school garden work intertwined in weekly lessons. Community scientists are being brought in for presentations as well. The third year will feature the Kula fifth graders trained to teach the third graders lessons in science and gardening. In exchange, the Kula Elementary Hawaiiana teacher presents lessons to the Clearview Christian School girls about Hawaiian science and terms used in science. This is a wonderful initiative and an example of how the public and independent schools can work together for the betterment of all our children. Clearview Christian School presently tends a small garden on its own campus with a greenhouse. (The Upcountry Academy, grades 9-12, is not presently involved in school garden work.)
